At its core is a formidable blade forged from 52100 High Carbon Steel, a steel revered for its exceptional toughness, fine grain structure, and outstanding edge retention. This is a steel trusted by serious knife users for good reason — it takes a razor edge, holds it under hard use, and responds beautifully to careful heat treatment. Measuring 8.75 inches from tip to guard and 2 inches wide at the ricasso, the blade carries a commanding presence without sacrificing balance or control.
A wide convex-ground bevel delivers smooth, efficient slicing performance, while the steep bevelled spine adds structural strength and penetrating capability when it matters most. Every line of the blade has purpose, contributing to a tool that feels alive in the hand and confident in motion.
The full tang construction ensures absolute durability, allowing the Black Bear to handle demanding tasks with ease. A hand-carved 6 mm antiqued brass guard provides reliable hand protection while adding a subtle, old-world elegance that complements the knife’s bold profile.
The handle is where craftsmanship truly shines. Stabilized and dyed Curly Birch brings warmth, depth, and natural figure, enhanced by black G10 liners and spacer for added strength and contrast. The assembly is secured with two stainless steel pins and a striking central black G10 pin, ensuring long-term integrity under real use.
Completing the package is a custom handcrafted full-grain leather sheath, built to protect the blade and age gracefully alongside it.
