Some knives are made to be admired. Others are made to earn their place on your belt.
The Grey Wolf belongs in the second category.
Designed for bush-crafters, hunters and outdoorsmen who depend on their equipment, the Grey Wolf is a knife that simply refuses to quit. Whether you’re processing firewood, preparing camp, dressing game or tackling the countless jobs that arise in the Australian bush, this is a knife built to keep working long after lesser blades have called it a day.
The Grey Wolf began life as a one-off custom commission. After months of hard field use, the owner reported that it had outperformed a well-known production bushcraft knife in every category that mattered—edge retention, cutting performance, comfort and reliability. That feedback was all the proof needed. The Grey Wolf earned its place as a permanent member of the Saxon Knives Australia collection.
At its heart is a hand forged 5-inch blade crafted from premium 80CRV2 high carbon steel, a steel respected by bladesmiths worldwide for its exceptional toughness, edge stability and ease of maintenance. Heat treated for demanding outdoor work, the blade features near-zero ground bevels, allowing it to bite aggressively into timber while maintaining superb control for carving, feather sticks and detailed camp tasks. It slices cleanly, carves effortlessly and has the strength to withstand years of hard use.
The full tang construction provides unwavering strength from point to pommel, giving you confidence when batoning timber, splitting kindling or performing heavier bushcraft chores. This is a knife built without compromise.
The handle is crafted from dyed and stabilised Karellian Birch, a premium timber prized for its remarkable figure and impressive durability. Stabilisation protects the wood from moisture and changing conditions while preserving its natural beauty. Blaze Orange G10 liners add both striking contrast and an extra layer of structural resilience, making the Grey Wolf as attractive as it is dependable. Stainless steel pins, together with a distinctive Wolf mosaic pin, complete the handle with the attention to detail expected from a handcrafted knife.
Every Grey Wolf is supplied with a handcrafted 8-ounce full-grain leather sheath, individually made to suit the knife. Configured for scout carry, the sheath rides comfortably across the back of the belt where it remains secure, accessible and out of the way while climbing, working or moving through dense bush. It won’t swing, snag or become a distraction when the work begins.
The Grey Wolf is not a display piece destined to gather dust on a shelf. It is a working knife, forged by hand to be trusted when conditions are demanding and failure is not an option. Like its namesake, it is quiet, dependable and relentless—a faithful companion that is always ready for the next task.
